Shock TV...but it will be normal and acceptable soon!

I am more and more amazed how bold TV's prime-time networks have become. This morning I was watching a program and suddenly a thirty second commercial appeared advertising the next segment of "Grey's Anatomy" where two women were inviting a man friend to have a threesome with them (and they weren't talking about playing golf either). A few weeks ago, it seemed like every time I turned the TV on some famous female personality was giving a mouth-to-mouth kiss (sometimes a french kiss) to another female. We may call it SHOCK TV today, but tomorrow it will be normal and acceptable!

It seems like everywhere you look on television or the media in general traditional moral boundary lines are being erased leaving us with a generation that is anxious to experiment with their new freedoms but unprepared to deal with the harsh consequences that inevitably follow. The media like the serpent in the garden of Eden makes the bait look attractive and harmless, and for a time there is pleasure and enjoyment but eventually it leads to the same end...emptiness, guilt, pain, disillusionment, and eventually death. James1:15 puts it this way, "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." [KJV]

The obvious victims is today's youth. Kids who are getting STD's (sexual transmitted diseases) by the millions. Kids committing suicide, choosing the homosexual lifestyle, experimenting with the occult, doing drugs, binge drinking, and on and on. The media is attempting and succeeding at making overt sexual immorality and lawlessness in general more and more acceptable today without being responsible for the dire consequences that comes with it.

What can you and I do? Live out the following. We may not be able to change our culture overnight, but as we let Christ live through us change will come to us and to others around us.

1Thessalonians 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all [men].
1Th 5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any [man]; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all [men].
1Th 5:16 Rejoice evermore.
1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
1Th 5:20 Despise not prophesyings.
1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Th 5:24 Faithful [is] he that calleth you, who also will do [it].
