Saturday Highlights

What a wonderful day it's been. Gabe had a soccer game this morning. Maybe the first one this year without rain. After that I had some appointments at the church. I made it home around the early evening to grab some dinner and do some work outside...I am clearing some brush, taking down a fence, putting up new posts, and painting the fence. I love working outside, especially in the spring and fall.

Just a few highlights today:
  • I was in fellowship with Greg and Tonya G. today and wow does Tonya have an awesome encounter testimony. God saved her, delivered her, and has filled her with the power of the Holy Ghost over a span of two encounters. She is a fireball for Christ! I really appreciate Greg and Tonya, and Franchesca(I hope I spelled that right!) and Victor. God has great things ahead of them!
  • I was able to speak with Arlene Miller today. Please keep her in your prayers. She has been losing weight (muscle mass) at an alarming rate. She would like for us also to prayer for her eyesight. She is planning on being with us next Saturday evening as well as Sunday morning at the Missions Conference.
  • Annette said the ladies had an awesome time at prayer tonight at 6 pm. All ladies are welcome to join them every Saturday night. It will get you ready for Sunday worship like nothing else can. Men you are welcome to join us for prayer every other saturday at 9 am. We will be praying this coming Saturday.
  • Ken and Karen B. and the boys were able to visit with the New Life Church in Terre Haute (Pastor Tim and Sheryl Minks) last weekend. Ken and Karen got together with quite a few couples that attend our encounters and went to church there Sunday AM. Ken said the highlight of the week was attending their cell leadership training classes Sunday night. He and Karen were asked to share about beginning and leading cells as well as give witness to what they have seen God do in their cell ministries.
  • One final highlight on a more worldy note..."What about those Reds and Jay Bruce!" Wow is he something or what! He seems to be pretty humble and down to earth. I guess he has a sister, Kellan, who has a mild mental handicap. No doubt it has helped him keep his enormous talent and success in proper perspective so far.

Well I have said enough! I leave you with this great prayer from the Apostle Paul. It is my prayer for you today and tomorrow. May God bless you!

Ephesians 3:14 May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. 20Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Friday Countdown

Well, its almost here! And I am not just speaking about the weekend but Sunday worship. I am excited about what God is going to do this Sunday at KP. The Lord has given me an exciting message that I am calling "What is God doing presently to prepare His people for heaven?" Just like we see signs of apostasy everywhere daily pointing to the horrific things that are soon to take place on earth. I also believe God is doing things right now in the body of Christ getting His church ready to live with Him in heaven and to rule with Him on earth for a thousand years. What an exciting time this is to be alive!

I am asking that you come to God's house this weekend with a great expection and anticipation! If we will do this, He will not let us down. We will walk away satisified and filled with the blessing of God in or lives and needs will be met. Last weekend we had several reports of "great healings" (see Amy Toney, danaamy2001@yahoo.com) due to the powerful presence of God in our midst. I hope you don't mine Amy...but you got a great praise to declare!

There are some prayer requests that have been on my heart lately...please help us pray for the following brothers and sisters: Penny Richardson, Anna Hilton (in the hospital), Phyllis Titus (believe God with us for healing of cancer), Linda Apke (recovering from surgery), Perry Mayerle (back), and Mary Morris. I also appreciate your prayers for my dad and mom. God is taking care of them. Today is their 49th anniversary! Happy anniversary mom and dad!

You will notice the sanctuary Sunday is beautifully adorned and ready for our missions conference coming up (thank you Chris, Carmen, and Gerry). I am asking you to get ready as well! Already, a liberty of generous, giving to missions has come upon our congregation. I am expecting a "great outpouring" of God's heart upon the people of Kings Point before, during, and after the missions conference. I can hardly wait for Sunday!

See ya Sunday!

Total Obedience in spite of Opposition

Joshua 6:10 "But Joshua commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout nor let your voice be heard, nor let a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you, ‘Shout!’ Then you shall shout!” 11 So he had the ark of the LORD taken around the city, circling it once; then they came into the camp and spent the night in the camp. 12 Now Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD. 13 And the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew the trumpets; and the armed men went before them, and the rear guard came after the ark of the LORD, while they continued to blow the trumpets. 14 Thus the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp; they did so for six days."

Yesterday, we looked at the "power of silence" as the Children of Israel marched around the wall six consecutive days without making noise. Today, I want to look at how Israel responded to God's instructions to Joshua in obedience but through faith in their God. Regardless how unusual the plan was or how hard it was to carry out, there was explicit obedience. We read in Hebrews 11:30, “by faith the walls of Jericho fell down …” In spite of the taunts that were perhaps hurled down at them from the walls as they marched silently around Jericho, they were willing to look foolish and simply rest in the Lord. He was their source of strength.

If we want to overcome our obstacles and testings, we must submit to God’s way by faith:
"For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness" (Gal. 5:5).

This week I was personally touched in my heart as I read an article from Fox news on-line about the present persecution of Christians in Iran. I read about how Christians in spite of facing arrest and even death are sharing Christ with their Muslim countrymen. As a result of these Iranian Christians obeying God rather than men, Christian converts are increasing as house churches are doubling in size. Signs, wonders, visions, and miracles are being reported. It may seem a foolish thing to the world but God is proven to be their sustainer and strength.

I encourage my KP congregation to start obeying in the small things and God will trust you with bigger things down the road. I promise you God will speak to you today concerning obeying Him in the small things if you will listen to His voice. I encourage you not to argue, or ignore Him, or even question Him...just obey Him.

The Power of Silence

Joshua 6:10, But Joshua commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout nor let your voice be heard, nor let a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you, ‘Shout!’

You no doubt know the story. The walls of Jericho were shut up tight. God gave Joshua explicit instructions for the children of Israel to march around the walls once for six consecutive days. On the seventh day, they were to march around it seven times. Then, the priests were to blow the trumpets followed by a great shout and the wall of the city would come down.

But forget about the trumpets, the shout, and the wall collapsing for a minute. Can you imagine the difficulty of several hundred thousand people marching around the city without a word, not even a whisper, for six straight days! There were the priests with their trumpets, those with the ark, the armed men and then the rest of the people. This may have included the women and children as well. The silence may be even a bigger miracle than the wall falling down!

The passage does not tell us why they were to be silent, but perhaps it illustrates the importance of being silent before God and just resting in Him. There is another passage that comes to mind in Exodus 14:14 where Moses said to the children of Israel as Pharoah's army is chasing after them, Jehovah shall fight for you, and you shall be silent. [MKJV] Then there is Psalm 46:10-11 which reads: Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD Almighty is with us … As this Psalm suggests, the silence teaches us the need to be quiet, to stop our running around that we may rest quietly in Him as we think on Him in the midst of our trials and conquests in life. Our tendency is to gripe and complain to others or seek our comfort from people more than we talk to God and seek our comfort from Him.

What great discipline the children of Israel displayed for those six days. Can you imagine how the people inside the walls felt? The Bible says they were already living in great fear due to Israel's previous victories. I have to think the silence was driving the Jerichoans crazy. By the time the seventh day came and the trumpets blew, and they heard the great shout, and the wall come down...they were no doubt "easy pickins" as Israel's people flooded into the city destroying everything on two and four legs.

In the same way, I believe disciplined Christians drive the enemy "nuts." I am speaking of believers who rest quietly in their Lord trusting Him to go before them and fight the battle. Christ through His death and resurrection has done just that. We can rest, be silent, and trust Him for the victory. Why don't you do that today?

Missions Conference to be "Unforgetable Weekend"

Our upcoming missions conference is shaping up to be an "unforgetable" weekend! The church sanctuary as early as this week will be decorated with beautiful missions banners. You have already given generously to Vanessa Ballard this past weekend to assist her in a missions trip to Thialand and monies are coming in to send ten of our people in August to El Salvador.

As your pastor, I just cannot thank you enough for your missions support. During the upcoming Missions conference, we will be giving you several different opportunities to give to some exciting missions projects. Here's what will be happening during the mission's conference.

On Friday evening, June 6, we will focus on missions in Southern Ohio. Scott Skeens, the Evangelism Director of Southern Ohio will be preaching and challenging us to preach the gospel to our Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria...the tri-state area and the state of Ohio. We will also be presenting a colorful parade of ministries with over 40 costumes from different countries along with musical selections from the choir and the children's drama ministry.

On Saturday evening, June 7, we will kick the evening off with a dinner featuring various entry dishes from different countries. Afterwards, a Global Church Planting Challenge will be presented on DVD by Global12, a network of churches and pastors working together to plant churches all over the world. In the last 7 years over 18,000 churches have been planted! We will be giving every individual, family, cell group, Sunday School class and ministry in KP an opportunity to plant a church this year. Also, on this night, an offering will be received to help assist those going to El Salvador in August. Please be praying with us for this great night of planting seeds for the kingdom to advance.

Sunday, June 8th, Sister Arlene Miller will be preaching and we will be asking everyone to prayerfully consider giving something to support our missionary. Sister Miller is one of the greatest Missionaries in Church of God World Missions and we are honored to have her as our Missionary. After church, we are encouraging everyone to go to Wendy's in Maineville who will be giving 15 per cent of all of their proceeds toward our El Salvador missions trip.

I sincerely believe this is more than a Missions Conference. I see God taking our church right now to a new level in ministry and in missions. I envision seeds being planted in the next few weeks that will bring forth an harvest for years to come and not just around the world but in our local church as well.

In Christ's Love,

Pastor Randy

Did God Create Evil?

A University professor at a well-known institution of higher learning challenged his students with this question."Did God create everything that exists?"

A student bravely replied, "Yes he did!""God created everything?" The professor asked."Yes sir, he certainly did," the student replied. The professor answered, "If God created everything; then God created evil. And, since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are, then we can assume God is evil."

The student became quiet and did not answer the professor's hypothetical definition. The professor, quite pleased with himself, boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "May I ask you a question, professor?" "Of course", replied the professor. The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?""What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?"The other students snickered at the young man's question. The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist.

According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460F) is the total absence of heat; and all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist? "The professor responded, "Of course it does."The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does notexist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact, we can use Newton 's prism to breakwhite light into many colors and study the various wave lengths of eachcolor. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course, as I have already said. We see it everyday. It is in the daily examples of man's in humanity toman. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist, sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe theabsence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat, or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down. The young man's name -- Albert Einstein

Sunday Wrap Up

What a day of worship! I have had several people come to me over the last few weeks and say that the Lord is speaking to them about a future outpouring of the Spirit of God at KP. Well, I believe it! I see this thing building every week. I really believe that some Sunday morning soon we are going to experience an “upperroom” kind of visitation that will keep us there in the presence of the Lord for awhile. I believe God is just getting started!

Thank you so much for a generous offering this morning for Vanessa’s mission trip. You gave well over $500. Praise the Lord!

Didn’t Pastor Tom and Pastor Tim feed our souls today! I really appreciate both of their ministries. God used them both mightily. And once again the Sunday PM service started where the AM service left off.

Well, I plan on getting some rest tomorrow! I hope you do as well. Have a great week!

In His Love,

The Greatest Worship Experience Ever (see "taps" video below)

I was blessed this morning to go down to City Gospel Mission with some wonderful, dedicated brothers and sisters in Christ. The place was packed with homeless men and women, young and old, from various ethnic backgrounds. As I looked into their faces, I seen people in need of the ministry of Christ in their lives. Jesus Christ's ministry mantra is spelled out in Luke 4:18-19, "The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."

As we drove back to the church, four of us men discussed that every need of every person there this morning is met in the ministry of Christ. Undoubtedly, most if not all of them would be considered poor by the world's standards. Many came into the mission this morning brokenhearted, crippled in their spirit by blows of this life. The majority of them are living in capitivity to drugs, alcohol, perversion, and poverty. And many are blind to the power of the gospel that brings true freedom and liberty to the bruised and hurting.

I was touched this morning as Brother John Bauer shared a message of hope and the favor of God "the acceptable year of the Lord" to everyone before breakfast. John shared exactly what Jesus would have shared if He would have been there in the physical...God's favor, God's love, the hope and future that God has for each one of them as they seek after Him. Jesus said in
Matthew 5:3, "Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

It was an awesome priviledge to minister Christ "to the least of these" at the mission which Matthew 25:45 tells us is actually doing it unto Christ Himself. What a blessing and the greatest experience in worship I believe is to minister "to the least of these." Proverbs 19:17, "He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again."

I am really excited about our worship services tomorrow. I am really expecting an awesome day! Please come ready to worship and be ready to give and receive. The same Spirit that anointed Jesus to minister will be with us on Sunday ready to do all the things He said He will do in Luke 4:18, 19.

See you in the morning!

In His love,

Pastor Randy

"Its Friday, But Sunday's a Coming!" (see "taps" video)

Congratulations, its Friday! The Memorial Day weekend is here and I hope you are looking forward to worshipping Sunday at your home church.

This is "Rescue Mission" weekend at Kings Point. John Bauer and his team do a wonderful job of ministering to as many as one hundred plus homeless men and women downtown Cincinnati every fourth Saturday morning of the month. Come on out and join them. They will leave from the church at 4:45 am Saturday. It will make your weekend!

You will not want to miss our video tribute Sunday morning to our brave soldiers who have sacrificed for our freedom. Provided below is a sneak preview. I warn you now, it's a tearjerker!

Please don't forget to remember and pray for our soldiers this Memorial Day weekend. All of you KPers know I don't talk politics in the pulpit, but I am thankful that we have a military and a President that doesn't "run from a fight with its tail between its legs." We have the most courageous and devoted military in the world, I truly believe that. I am so proud of our military and their families. I really doubt if we know even a little of all the great things our military has accomplished in the war in Iraq and the millions of lives that are better off. I encourage you as Christians to not let the media or the negative politicians think and speak for you...find out for yourself all the good that is going on in the war of Iraq and lets pray constantly for the young men and women that are keeping us free through their sacrifice and dedication!

I am excited to have my brother and his family with us this weekend. Tom has done a wonderful job leading the Grant County Rescue Mission in Marion, Indiana. This is a mission that houses both homeless men and women in separate facilities. Along with housing, they provide food, clothing, jobs, and ministry. Tom's job as the Director demands that he represents the ministry through public relations with area businesses, colleges and universities, as well as local and state government agencies. Aside from all of this, he and his family have planted a new church downtown Marion that focuses on ministry to the poor and needy. The church is already ministering to over one hundred people every weekend.

Tom and Debbie's daughter, Vanessa, will be sharing a little about her upcoming mission trip to Thialand where she will spend most of her summer doing ministry. We will be receiving an offering to assist her in her expenses. She is a recent high school graduate who has a great passion for missions. Annette and I are very proud of her and her sister, Cassandra. They are both outstanding servants of God!

Hey, its going to be a great weekend! I hope you get some rest, a little recreation, and those little jobs around the house done. If you are traveling, please be careful and "watch and pray" for gas under #4.00 a gallon.

In His Love,

Pastor Randy

The Bewares: "Watch and Pray"

Mar 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. KJV

Mar 13:34 It's like a man who takes a trip, leaving home and putting his servants in charge, each assigned a task, and commanding the gatekeeper to stand watch.
Mar 13:35 So, stay at your post, watching. You have no idea when the homeowner is returning, whether evening, midnight, cockcrow, or morning.
Mar 13:36 You don't want him showing up unannounced, with you asleep on the job.
Mar 13:37 I say it to you, and I'm saying it to all: Stay at your post. Keep watch." MSG

"Watch and Pray" is a very common exhortation throughout the New Testament. It means to be alert, sober, and to be in constant prayer.

Jesus uses a story to stress the importance of Christians "staying alert and awake" in waiting for His coming. In another story, Jesus tells of ten virgins who all fell asleep but five had oil in their lamps and five did not. The five with oil were ready for the coming of the Bridegroom and the five who ran out of oil were not ready. Undoubtedly, in both of these stories Jesus is telling us that the temptation to fall asleep before His coming is quite real and that many will succumb to it.

Are followers of Christ nodding off today just before His coming? And if so how are Christians falling asleep today? Yes, many are sleeping spiritually today and of course don't realize it. Let me suggest several reasons for this.

#1 - APATHY: Like the church of Ephesus in Revelation, many Christians today "have left their first love." They no longer do the "first works" and have grown cold and indifferent. The remedy is the same today as it was in the day..."Repent, and do the first works."

#2 - SELF-CENTEREDNESS: Today's church is centered around "getting my blessing" or serving one's self. "If there is not anything in it for me, then I won't participate or get involved..." is the attitude of many Christians today. Jesus' command of "picking up the cross, denying self, and following after Him" is a foreign concept to many Christians today.

#3 - SPIRITUAL PRIDE: Like the church of at Laodicea, many Christian church attenders are proud spiritually but do not see that they stand before Almighty God as "miserable, poor, blind, and naked." They see themselves as spiritually abounding and wealthy, but Jesus tells them that they are lukewarm and that their lukewarmness nauseates God to the point of Him vomiting them out of His mouth [Hey, read it for yourself. I don't make this stuff up...Revelation 3:16, 17].

I am sure there are other "sleeping aids" that are causing many to sleep spiritually today. In closing, I leave you with the words of Jesus and I encourage you to WAKE UP and SEEK THE FACE OF CHRIST before you sleep right on through the coming of Christ. What a tragedy that would be!

Rev 3:18 I advise you, then, to buy gold from me, pure gold, in order to be rich. Buy also white clothing to dress yourself and cover up your shameful nakedness. Buy also some ointment to put on your eyes, so that you may see. GNB

The Bewares: “the Culture Deceivers”

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. KJV

Colossians 2:8 See to it, then, that no one enslaves you by means of the worthless deceit of human wisdom, which comes from the teachings handed down by human beings and from the ruling spirits of the universe, and not from Christ. GNB

We are warned in these passages in regards to the deceiving doctrines of men and demonic rulers of the world. We are told that men are seduced and enslaved by such teachings. The Apostle here is not speaking of false doctrines taught by cultists or false teachers of religion, but deceptive philosophies and ideas that are eagerly passed down by popular culture to the mainstream masses. Gregory Koukl and Francis Beckwith, in their book Relativism, explain how this process happens:

“Ideas that are whispered are seldom analyzed well, for they simply don’t draw enough attention. By means of repetition and passive acceptance over time, they take on the force of common wisdom, a ‘truth’ that everyone knows but no one has stopped to examine . . . a kind of intellectual urban legend. When ideas like these take root, they are difficult to dislodge. The ideas become so much a part of our emerging intellectual constitution that we are increasingly incapable of critical self-reflection. Even if we did, we have little conviction that such analysis would do any good anyway.”

It is astounding how these “intellectual urban legends” have shaped the thinking and beliefs of the American culture. Here’s a sample:
Pro-Choice Movement—A woman’s right to choose supersedes the right of life for the child in her womb.
Gay Movement—Homosexuality is genetic; most gay men and women are born that way.
Entertainment/Media— Art can only influence society for good, not for ill.
Sexual Revolution/Humanism—Short of harming others or compelling them to do likewise, individuals should be permitted to express their sexual proclivities and pursue their lifestyles as they desire.
Humanism—Happiness, the good life, individuality and shared enjoyments are continual themes of human life. Man at the core of his nature is basically good.
Darwinism/Evolution—Man evolved from advanced forms of animals, mainly from monkeys.
Relativism —All truth is relative, subjective. There are no absolute truths or standards that apply universally.

Shockingly, some, if not most, of the Protestant churches in America recognize these so-called “common truths.” George Barna in What Americans Believe, points to research that show the church’s ethics often mirror pop culture’s ethics. With regard to some of these beliefs, the church is even more liberal than the non-Christian population. For example, 73 percent of Protestant Christians when surveyed said they do not believe in absolute truth compared to 65 percent of non-Christians. It looks like pop culture is making inroads in what has historically been known as the most conservative segment of American society, the church.

I am reminded of Colossians 2:4 that reads “…do not let anyone deceive you with false arguments, no matter how good they seem to be.” Unfortunately, we have many in the Christian community with good deeds that are among the deceived. They may have started well but their convictions have grown callous over time and they are unable to discern a lie from the truth.

How do you and I combat the great deception of our day? God’s word has plenty to offer us. Colossians 2:7 states, “Keep your roots deep in him[Christ], build your lives on him, and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught. And be filled with thanksgiving.” I think that will do it, don’t you? We don’t have to be sucked into the culture’s vacuity. Christ gives the discernment and the power to beware and to overcome deceitful men and their doctrines. Praise the Lord!

The Bewares: "Greed"

Today, I want to continue to examine "The Bewares" throughout the New Testament. Remember, the word "beware" means to see with the eyes, to see with the mind, or to perceive or know. Jesus wanted us to be on top of our game spiritually at all times, so he uses the word beware or take heed to keep us from falling in the traps of the enemy. Lets look at another Beware today.

Beware of Covetousness, Greed -Luke 12:15 "And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. " KJV
Luke 12:15 And he went on to say to them all, "Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because your true life is not made up of the things you own, no matter how rich you may be." GNB

Many people today think money and material things equal security. But Jesus warns us of just the opposite. A few years ago, columnist Jim Bishop reported what happened to people who won the state lottery:
  • Rosa Grayson of Washington won $400 a week for life. She hides in her apartment today. She claims that everyone tries to put the touch on her. "People are so mean," she said. "I hope you win the lottery and see what happens to you."
  • When the McGugarts of New York won he Irish Sweepstakes, they were happy. Pop was a steamfitter. Johnny, twenty-six, loaded crates on docks. Tim was going to night school. Pop split the million with his sons They all said the money wouldn't change their plans. One year later, the boys weren't speaking to Pop, or to each other. Johnny was chasing expensive race horses; Tim was chasing and catching expensive girls. Mom accused Pop of hiding his poke from her. Within two years, all of them were in court for nonpayment of income taxes. "It's the Devil's own money, " Mom said. Both boys were studying hard at becoming alcholocs.

All of the above stories had characters who hoped and prayed for sudden wealth. All had their prayers answered. All their lives were wrecked by a dollar sign. How sad.

Notice, Jesus says in Luke 12:15, "Beware and guard yourselves form every form of greed." How do we do that...guard ourselves? Just a few suggestions.

  1. Be content with what God gives you. Be a good steward and put Him first with your money and possessions.
  2. Live your life like it all belongs to Him. He is entrusting you with it for a short while.
  3. Remember, one day you will be held accountable to God for all that He has given you. So use it wisely and use it for His glory.
  4. Don't hoard, give to others. Share with others what God has given you.

In a 1988 issue of Time magazine, there was an insightful article about the introduction of the videocassette recorder. Time reported that while at first Sony kept its Beta technolog mostly to itself, JVC, the Japanese inventor of the VHS format shared its secret with a raft of other firms. As a result, the market was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the VHS machines being produced.

Even in a cut-throat business, sharing has its rewards. Jesus said in Luke 6:38, Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

The Bewares: "the Leaven"

We live in a day when I Timothy 4:1 is being fulfilled that in the latter times some will fall away from the faith…Throughout the New Testament we are warned by Jesus and the apostles to BEWARE. The word "beware" means…"to turn the mind to, attend to be attentive… to a person or a thing: of caring for…" Another word that means the same thing is TAKE HEED…which means "to see with the eyes, to see with the mind, to perceive, know."

Throughout this week, I want to take a look at the BEWARES through the scriptures. Because we too today must beware and take heed , if not, we could find ourselves falling or drifting way from Christ while being deceived by the enemy.

#1 – BEWARE OF THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES (probably the most common beware in the gospels)

Mat 16:6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
Mat 16:11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake [it] not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
Mat 16:12 Then understood they how that he bade [them] not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

The corrupt principles and practices of the Pharisees and Sadducees are compared to leaven; they were souring, and swelling, and spreading, like leaven; their doctrines and teachings fermented whatever and whoever received it. The leaven of the Pharisees inflated men up with pride, embittered them with malice, and made what they do for God unacceptable before Him. It made their religion a "cloak of maliciousness.” This is why 1Corinthian 5:8 says, Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth.

So how do we serve God? I Corinthians 5:8 says with sincerity (purity) and truth. How do we "keep ourselves unleavened?" Psalm 119:140 says, Thy word [is] very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it. Wow, there it is! God's word is pure, it is my job to desire it, want it, and love it. If I can do this, I can successfully beware of false doctrines that lead to pride, malice, and wickedness.

This is my prayer for you and me, that we will "love the pure word of God." I encourage you this week to get God's pure word in you. Read, memorize it, meditate on it, LOVE IT!

What a Day!

Hello Everyone,

We had two awesome services today. People came ready to worship. The Holy Spirit messed us all up tonight. What a great time of worship, prayer and praise! I feel sorry for the KP that missed the service tonight. Pastor Tim Orr was going to preach but told me afterwards that the Holy Spirit did everything in the service he was going to share in his message....so there was no need for him to preach and he didn't.

Great job with your song tonight Amanda! It was good to see you singing again...you too, Jeff B.

We welcomed in the following new members tonight: Amy, Tonya, Stan & Gail, and Chris & Carmen. I have never seen a group of people so determined and anxious to come in as members! And we are glad to have them!

I appreciate the cell leaders that attended the meeting tonight and the Children's Ministry staff that stayed for the meeting this morning. I appreciate so much your dedication and your commitment. I know you were tired and ready to go home, but thanks for hanging around and giving us a little more of your time. You are wonderful people. I love you so much. Thanks so much for your service unto the Lord! It was wonderful to see that great army of cell of leaders tonight.

Thanks so much for your prayers for my dad today. He is in the hospital with a kidney inflection and is little dehydrated. He should be fine and just be in for a day or two.

Wow, I am really beat. I'm gonna watch a little Reds highlights. Two sweeps in a row over first place teams. GO REDS!

Have a great week!

A Long Saturday...but Sunday is Coming!

Hello Everyone,

Just some personal insights tonight.

Today started out early this morning with a 7:30 am tee off time at Central Parkway's "Cincinnati Compassion" golf fundraiser on the west side of town. I played this morning with Mark (Meatball) Bowers, Dale Boegeman, and Dale's friend, Joe. We had a great time! Dale can hit a ball a mile! We finished six under par...not bad, but it could have been much better!

From there, I headed over to Fairfield to catch two tournament soccer games that we won 1-0 and 2-0 respectively. I think Gabe and his parents will be glad when club soccer comes to an end in a few weeks. Gabe finishes up driving school next week and then has "in-car training" the week afterwards and then he gets his license. I am sure my prayer life is getting ready to go to another level!

Following the 4 pm game I ran over to the church for Singles Night where we had a great time in fellowship, prayer, and praise & worship. We had a tasty mexican meal together as well. I really believe God has His hand upon the Singles ministry. It wouldn't surprise me to see God do something through this core group of singles that will bless not just Kings Point but our entire community.

So now I am finally home trying to make final preparations for Sunday. I am anticipating an awesome move of God tomorrow. If you are a member at KP, come ready to enter in. I really believe we are going to have a great day together of glorifying the name of the Lord!

In Christ,

Pastor Randy Ballard

Does Anyone Really Go to Hell Anymore?

I have been performing funerals for over 27 plus years. Over the last 15 years I have noticed a common trend. That is, almost everyone assumes that the deceased person has gone to heaven. I used to think people just talked that way because they didn’t want to be seen as casting judgment upon them. Or that they just couldn’t deal with the thought of the alternative – going to hell. But now I have come to the conclusion, that people today really do believe that everyone that dies goes to heaven; well, there may be a few exceptions like a terrorist, a serial murderer or rapist, a greedy t.v. evangelist, or a corrupt CEO.

If you would ask most people today, “Why you think their close friend or family member went to heaven?” You might here responses along these lines:
~ My uncle wasn’t perfect, but he was a good person.
~ My friend had a good heart and she was always helping others.
~ My dad got baptized when he was twelve years old and I think he really loved God.
~ Of course, God is love and He’s going to let my son into heaven. He was as good as most kids.

As a pastor, these are common things that I hear from most people today who have lost a loved one. The general assumption is that the deceased was a good person, God is love, and that He would never send any one to hell except for the real bad people. When I hear people say these things, I often wonder “Where did they get these ideas from? Is this the way they were raised or did they just make this up? Or is this how people that live in secular culture have come to view death and eternity?"

Now, before I go any further, I have to admit, this kind of thinking or rationalization sounds very diplomatic, even convenient. But the problem is “he was a good person” is a very relative judgment to make about someone. He was good as compared to whom? If you compare the person to Hitler, that makes about 99.9999999 of us eligible to be described as “good.” But if you compare that person to Jesus, then most of us wouldn’t feel qualified to be a good person unless you believed Martin Scorsleezy’s (that’s Scorsese, isn’t it) film, “The Last Temptation of Christ.” So I guess the question is, “How good is good enough?” Who determines whether a person is good or he is not good?

The other common response I hear is “God is love and He would not send them to hell!” Most people say this with an underlying belief that you have to do something really, really bad to go to hell. They see God as a big cosmic Santa Claus who lets about everyone slip into heaven except for the big, bad bully types.

Now I got to tell you, this is the way most people think today and they would rather keep their thoughts and ideas subjective, not given to too much thought to traditional objective sources like the Bible or even the Talmud. They are comfortable with this line of thinking and it helps them cope with the death of close friends or loved ones. But is it the truth? And this is the real issue, if we believe that truth is relative and subjective…if the truth is what I believe no matter what the Bible or any source of authority or wisdom says, then we can easily justify the idea that everyone deserves to go to heaven except for the real bad guys.

But if your old fashion and old school like real Christians are, then you believe that truth has nothing to do with what I believe, but what the Bible or God’s Word says. And when the Bible speaks of salvation, God clearly spells out for us how we can know that when we die we will go to heaven.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and thelife: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 11:25-26 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.

John 3:15-17 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

I could list many more scriptures, but in short the Bible says only by knowing Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord can we know for sure we are going to heaven. Romans 10:9-10, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Now you don’t have to believe the Bible, you can continue to believe that what you think is truth if you like. But what if you are wrong and the Bible is right? What happens if you die and stand before God and what you thought was right was wrong?

How God Blesses us Through our Weaknesses

Let’s look at the benefits of our weaknesses. The limitations that God allows in our lives can actually be a blessing in disguise.

1. You have a greater dependence upon God. Paul clearly understood this. 2 Corinthians 12:10 (Living Bible) “For when I am weak, then I am strong. The less I have, the more I depend upon Him.” Phillips translation: “For my very weakness makes me strong in Him.” You know the story of Paul. He had a weakness. Some kind of persistent perplexity that caused in him some kind of pain and limited his ministry. It was very painful to Paul and he wanted to get rid of it. He asked God three times to take it away because it was a limitation on his ministry. Yet all three times God refused. 2 Corinthians 12:9 (Good News) “My grace is all you need. For My power is strongest when you are weak.”

We forget that we find our power in our weakness. And God says “I am strongest when you are weak.” Usually we resist or resent any limitation that we have on our ministry. But if God shows Himself strong in the limitations in your ministry and if God shows Himself strong in your weaknesses, then why should He take it away? The fact is sometimes God works through our human weaknesses rather than eliminating those weakness. I think this is true for not just physical weaknesses but also emotional ones. I believe there are times we have to look at our psychological weaknesses as part of God’s providential plan for our life. That they can increase our dependence upon God.

Remember the story of Gideon when God wanted to overthrow the Midianities. He chose the youngest kid in the poorest family in Israel. Then before He let Gideon go out into battle against 135,000 Midianites, God whittled down the army to only 300 men, which meant the odds were now 450 to one. Why? God wanted them to trust Him alone for success.

So when I have a limitation in my ministry and personal life, it is an opportunity to trust God more, to have a greater dependence. Andre Crouch said, “If I never had a problem, I’d never know God could solve them.”

2. It prevents pride. 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 Paul says, “To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassing revelations, there was given to me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me. Three times I pleaded with God to take it away but He said to me, `My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses so that Christ’s power will be left on me. That’s why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, hardships, persecutions and difficulties. For when I am weak then I am strong.”

Paul says he was given a thorn. What is a thorn? We don’t know. It’s some kind of perplexity that causes pain and limits your ministry. A thorn is something that’s beyond your control. If it had been in Paul’s control, I guarantee you he would have changed it. He was asking God to change it. We know that the thorn is given by God. Since it’s given by God, we know it’s not a sin because God would never give a sin to us. A thorn can be caused by a sin, but God does not give sin. Paul also asked for God to remove it three times. If the thorn had been a sin, then God would have removed it immediately. We also know that Paul boasted of his thorn and he wouldn’t have boasted of it, if it had been a sin. Some thorns are temporary and others last a lifetime. Some thorns are removed instantly and some thorns are removed gradually.

Recently I read that Paul Younge Cho, the pastor of the world’s largest church in Seoul, Korea, experienced a period of physical weakness in his ministry. His testimony: “In 1964 I was a young minister with several thousand members in my church. I began to think I was one of God’s accomplished servants and I almost entered into a complacency in my ministry. Then God allowed the perplexity of physical weakness to be my thorn. I developed a case of nervous exhaustion and some problems with my heart. From that moment on, I was newly forced to depend on the strength of Christ, even to carry out my simple daily tasks. During my recuperation, God had all the time and opportunity to show me the many changes that had to take place in my life and in my ministry and in the church. At that point I questioned God’s wisdom of letting sickness cripple my life’s activities. But after God had made the needed changes as a part of my modified mentality, the perplexity of weakness was lifted. I regained strength and the power to institute the needed changes. My life, my ministry and church have never been the same since. All three reached heights I’d only dreamed of before…. The process took ten years.” His thorn was not removed overnight but gradually.

What is the purpose of these thorns?

1. They get our attention. Pain can be a booster rocket. It can motivate us to change directions. When you’re going in the wrong direction a pain can change that direction. Sometimes once you’re headed in the right direction, then that booster rocket can fall off.

2. It acts as a governor in our ministry and in our lives. Sometimes God places a governor in our lives or a thorn to keep us from running ahead of ourselves. A good example of a weakness being a governor on a person’s life was Jacob. He had a tendency to run away from all responsibility. In the classic example where he wrestled with God and he said, “I’m not going to let go until You bless me.” God did bless him, but it says, “God touched him on his thigh.” The thigh is the strongest muscle of your body. God touched him at his greatest point of strength and gave him a limp. Why? Because Jacob had a tendency all his life to run away. I think this became a life long reminder that God has blessed him and he was to depend on God the rest of his life and never run away again.

As I’ve had the privilege to meet some of the better known Christian leaders that are alive today I’ve discovered that every leader who is genuinely touched by God has a limp in his life. It can act as a governor, an attention getter, and…

3. An encouragement for self-evacuation. When there’s a persistent pain or perplexity in our life it evaluates us; it causes us to evaluate ourselves. It’s a warning light saying, “What’s wrong?” The thorn room is God’s way to the throne room.

3. It causes a greater dependence on other Christians. 1 Corinthians 12:22 (Living Bible) “Some of the parts of the body that seem the weakest and least important are really the most necessary.” One of the dangers of strength is that it breeds an independent spirit. It’s the attitude of “I don’t need anybody else because I’ve got it all together.” So God allows weaknesses in each of us so that all parts of His body will recognize their need for each other. None of us can stand alone. Our humanity demands interdependence. It produces fellowship. Vance Habner says, “Snowflakes are frail but if enough of them stick together they can stop traffic.” As God says in Corinthians “The hand can’t say to the foot, `I don’t need you,’ and the nose can’t say to the mouth, `I don’t need you,’ and the eye can’t say to the ear, `I don’t need you.’” Like a rope strength comes from weaving many weak strands of cord together. I’m convinced that one of the main reason the church has limited impact in the world today is because of the lack of cooperation between Christians in ministry. I can’t do it all myself. Neither can you. But together we can make an impact.

4. It expands our capacity to minister. 2 Corinthians 1:4 says “God comforts us in our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves received from God.” If you’re going to have a Christlike ministry it means that sometimes other people are going to find healing in the wounds that you take into your life. I believe that our greatest messages come out of our deepest hurts. One of the most powerful testimonies I’ve ever heard was when a well known pastor shared from a broken heart how one of his kids had gone off the deep end and got involved in drugs and other things. Through that testimony, he was able to minister to many, many families among the thousands that were listening to him.

Pain sensitizes us to the hurts of others. I like the point where Jesus talked to Peter referring to his failure of denying Him in Luke 22:32 “When you have returned to Me, strengthen your brothers.” It’s interesting to me that Jesus was not so concerned with Peter’s failure as much as He was concerned that Peter uses his experience to encourage others after he had been restored. Our weakness, our failures, can be used to expand our capacity to minister to others. God helps us in trouble, then we comfort others with the same comfort we’ve been given.

This only works if you’re willing to share your weakness. If you hold back your weaknesses and faults and pains in your life it’s of no benefit to those you could possibly minister to.

Weak People

There are emotional limitations, scars that we all carry from childhood, from school, natural temperament, personality characteristics that you have, how you handle stress, your basic predisposition toward life. I think we all carry talent limitations. The fact is, you’re good at some things and you are not good at some other things. Matthew 25 makes it real clear that there are one talent people there are five talent people and there are ten talent people. We’re limited. Nobody is good at everything. And then we have physical limitations. There are limits on how much energy we have. We have handicaps. Each of us go through illnesses, disabilities, weaknesses that we inherit or pick up along the way.

Throughout the Bible we see so many examples of the fact that God loves to turn our greatest weakness into our greatest strength.

Consider Moses. There are only two people in the Bible who are called meek: Jesus and Moses. When you think of meek you think of someone who has their temper under control, yet what was Moses’ greatest problem? His anger. He got angry and killed an Egyptian. He got angry and threw down the Ten Commandments so that they broke. He got angry and struck the rock when he should have spoken to it. It was anger that kept him out of the promised land, yet in the Bible he’s the only other person besides Jesus who is called meek.

Gideon. God said, “Gideon, you are a mighty man of valor,” and yet when you look closely at his life, Gideon’s problem was timidity. He was afraid. He had a fear of failure. Yet God said you are a courageous man of valor.

Jesus called Peter “a Rock.” Yet, Peter was anything but stable. He was Mr. Impulsive, Mr. Foot-In-Mouth, always speaking before he had thought things through. Yet Jesus said, “You’re going to be a rock.”

David. He was called, “a man after God’s own heart,” and yet his greatest defeat was in the area of moral impurity.

Abraham. Abraham was called the “father of faith,” and yet he had so much faith that twice he told his wife, "Tell them you’re my sister so they won’t kill me in order to take you.” That didn’t show too much faith!

The point I want to make is simply, God likes to turn our greatest weakness into our greatest strength. Hudson Taylor once said, “All God’s giants have been weak people.”

God loves to choose weak people to work through. Why? 1 Corinthians 1:27 (Good News) “God purposely chose what the world considers nonsense in order to put wise men to shame and what the world considers weak in order to put the powerful men to shame.” Why does He like to use weak people? So He will receive the glory.

A few years ago there were a number of toys out called the Masters of the Universe – little cartoon characters with big thighs and bulging biceps, rippling muscles. The message that conveyed to the world was that the world belongs to the mighty.

But God is not impressed with might. Zachariah 4:6 “`It’s not by might not by power but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord.” I remember as a child I used to imagine that Samson was some muscle bound giant but later I learned that the Bible says when the Philistines looked at Samson, they couldn’t figure out his secret of strength. Evidently he must have looked very average and they didn’t know why he was strong. Judges 14:19 tells us that the secret of his strength was the Spirit of the Lord not the size of his muscles. There’s another example of weakness turned into strength.
All of us have weaknesses. We all carry the gospel in jars of clay. Lets be thankful for our weaknesses.

I Love Tuesdays!

My Tuesday started this morning with doing some devotions and then some work on the computer before getting dressed and heading to the office. I had to meet with Sonya (our Treasurer) over some financial matters followed by our weekly church staff meeting. In attendance at our staff meeting today was Debbie Jett, Children's Minister; Corina Bowers, Office Manager; Sonya Money, Treasurer; Brian Griffin, Minister of Music, Adam Johnson, Ministerial Intern, and myself.

We always do our sharing of laughing and having a good time at staff meetings. The church has blessed me with a wonderful group of people who really have the best interests of the church at heart. But even more importantly, they love God and know how to pray. We always have a wonderful time of prayer during our staff meetings. We pray for the needs of the church family, one another, and ministries of the church. We then go over the agenda for the coming week and the week that follows. JUST IN CASE YOU WANTED TO KNOW!

It has been really nice having Brother Adam Johnson with us serving as a summer intern. Adam is getting ready to go into his senior at Lee University. Adam is a sharp young man who is sincere about his calling to preach the gospel. It's refreshing to see young people like Adam and his sincerity toward the ministry. Adam too, is hungry and eager to learn and grow both as a person and as a minister of the gospel. I think Adam will be a great blessing to the church this summer and I am sure KP will bless him and give him some great learning opportunities this summer...he ought to have lots of stories to tell when he goes back to Lee in the fall! You've done great so far Tim and Teresa!

Today God opened a door for me to minister to someone that I have been praying for for years. I want encourage you that are praying for unbelievers to keep it up. God is hearing your prayers and He will soon open a door for you to plant a seed. Be ready!

I am putting the following scripture to memory this week. I encourage you to memorize and meditate on God's word. It keeps your spirit and mind sharp!

Isa 40:29 He giveth power to the faint; and to [them that have] no might he increaseth strength.
Isa 40:30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
Isa 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.

Have a great Wednesday!

Shock TV...but it will be normal and acceptable soon!

I am more and more amazed how bold TV's prime-time networks have become. This morning I was watching a program and suddenly a thirty second commercial appeared advertising the next segment of "Grey's Anatomy" where two women were inviting a man friend to have a threesome with them (and they weren't talking about playing golf either). A few weeks ago, it seemed like every time I turned the TV on some famous female personality was giving a mouth-to-mouth kiss (sometimes a french kiss) to another female. We may call it SHOCK TV today, but tomorrow it will be normal and acceptable!

It seems like everywhere you look on television or the media in general traditional moral boundary lines are being erased leaving us with a generation that is anxious to experiment with their new freedoms but unprepared to deal with the harsh consequences that inevitably follow. The media like the serpent in the garden of Eden makes the bait look attractive and harmless, and for a time there is pleasure and enjoyment but eventually it leads to the same end...emptiness, guilt, pain, disillusionment, and eventually death. James1:15 puts it this way, "Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." [KJV]

The obvious victims is today's youth. Kids who are getting STD's (sexual transmitted diseases) by the millions. Kids committing suicide, choosing the homosexual lifestyle, experimenting with the occult, doing drugs, binge drinking, and on and on. The media is attempting and succeeding at making overt sexual immorality and lawlessness in general more and more acceptable today without being responsible for the dire consequences that comes with it.

What can you and I do? Live out the following. We may not be able to change our culture overnight, but as we let Christ live through us change will come to us and to others around us.

1Thessalonians 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all [men].
1Th 5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any [man]; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all [men].
1Th 5:16 Rejoice evermore.
1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
1Th 5:20 Despise not prophesyings.
1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
1Th 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Th 5:24 Faithful [is] he that calleth you, who also will do [it].

It was a great Mother's Day!

Hello Everyone,

This morning's service was awesome! The Mother's Day letters came from the heart and were tearjerkers. Debbie, Karen, and Lori, you did a super job! The ladies choir was great. The praise & worship was powerful...the presence of God was so real. It's been beautiful to see so many people recently "on their own" coming forward to the front of the sanctuary to worship. I appreciated so much your response to the message and the altar service. It was really a great service!

Be sure to check out the "Upcoming Events" tab. We have some great things coming up at Kings Point! I am excited about our Singles Night coming up this Saturday! God has been raising up a large, crazy group of singles in our church. The women had around sixty singles at their recent spring encounter. As a church, we want to become more sensitive to the needs of our singles. They are a great resource too, full of enthusiasm and energy to work for the Lord!

I am really excited too about the missions emphasis that we are seeing at Kings Point. We have ten going to El Salvador in August. This is a great response especially with such short notice. Chris and Carmen McBeath are doing a super job coordinating this trip along with the upcoming Missions Conference. Also, my neice, Venessa Ballard, will be sharing on May 25th about her upcoming mission's trip to Africa. She will be going for two months this time. She has a "big heart" for missions work and you will be blessed by her love for missions and my brother will be preaching that Sunday morning as well. I want to encourage you to buy "buddy cards" from the youth and adults that are selling them. The youth are trying to raise funds to go to Baton Rouge (the 220 Youth Conference) and some are selling them to fund their trip to El Salvador.

Gabe, Annette, and I had Mother's Day lunch today at Gabe's mom's favorite place to eat...most of you know where! I called my mom and wished her happy Mother's Day. Annette spent the day Friday with her mother. She absolutely loves spending time with her mom. Her mother is a special lady!

Well, that's enough! Have a great week!

How Godly Women Influence Future Generations

2Timothy1:5, 6 "When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir (Inspire, awaken) up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands."

In these verses we see the powerful influence that Timothy's grandmother and mother had upon his life. These women possessed a rich faith in Christ Jesus that they successfully passed down to young Timothy. This grandma and her daughter were serious about their faith. They talked, walked, and lived it out daily...they were the real deal. It was not only taught to Timothy, but caught by him as well.

The Apostle Paul says to Timothy, "This is the kind of faith that's in you Timothy. " The apostle had great confidence in Timothy. Paul in Phillipians 2:20 says he had "no man like-minded" (speaking of Timothy). Paul encourages Timothy "to stir up, or inspire, or awaken" the gift that is in him. But what I want you to note here is it all started with the godly influence of a grandma and mother upon a young boy as he grew into manhood.

I can relate to Timothy. I too was blessed with a godly grandmother and mother. My grandmother is with the Lord now and my mother is still going strong serving the Lord today and caring for my dad (her husband) who has parkinson's disease.

My grandmother was a prayer warrior. A godly woman who loved God and who had an awesome impact on my life. My mother is the same kind of woman. She is a true servant of God who has an untiring work ethic. Even today as she cares for my dad full-time she still is active in her church working, serving, feeding and clothing people. My mother is a retired nurse who enjoys going on short-term missionary trips ministering to people's physical, mental, and spiritual needs. My mom enjoys having fun (even though her grandkids think she's nuts). But they love their Me-Me and they have a blast when they are with her...she is full of life!

Even though my grandmother maybe long gone, I can see how her godly life is still having a Christlike influence on now three generations...my mom, myself along with my brother and sister, and our kids. My grandmother and mother have successfully passed down their faith. Nonetheless, it is up to us "to stir it up, awaken, or ignite it." Why? So more Timothy's will be raised up in future generations to do the work of the ministry that God has entrusted them with.

Why We Do Small Groups, part 2

As I stated in yesterday's blog our small group emphasis is built on a strong scriptural conviction that Jesus has called the church "to win souls and make disciples" (Matthew 28:19, 20). Today I want to continue to give reasons why Kings Point believes in using small groups (cells) and how they work.

#6 - Our small groups are gender-based: men meet with men and women meet with women. We have found that men are more open and transparent when they are with other men and vice versa for women. We also have encounter weekends that are gender-based for these same reasons.

#7 - Small groups give our members opportunities to build intimate relationships with other Christians. This happens as cell members pray together, study God's word together, and are transparent and accountable with each other. It is a proven fact the more intimate friendships a Christian forms in a church, the deeper the level of commitment.

#8 - Accountability is promoted in our small groups. We believe that accountable Christians are spiritually healthy Christians.

#9 - Our small groups promote Christian nurture and care for one another. Small group members care, serve, pray, and love each another. Small group leaders are trained and encouraged to pastor their members.

#10 -Throughout the year, all of our adult small groups are studying and discussing the same scripturally-based lesson week in and week out. Then, as the pastor I am able to reinforce the scriptural principles that are being taught in Sunday messages from the pulpit. This brings uniformity to the congregation as we learn and grow together in God's word.

If you attend Kings Point, once more I encourage you to become active in a small group if you are not already. You can call the church office and we will help you find a small group that is most convenient for you. If I can help you in anyway regarding organizing small groups in your church, please feel free to e-mail or call us.

Why We Do Small Groups(Cells)

We strongly believe in utilizing small groups at Kings Point. Our small group emphasis is built on a strong conviction that Jesus has called the church "to win souls and make disciples" (Matthew 28:19, 20). Disciples are not made by people attending Sunday morning worship. Discipleship is best done the way Jesus modeled it in the gospels as He spent time with the disciples.

We have been encouraging our congregation for four years now to become active in small groups. We have small groups for every age group that are gender-based except for the children small groups. Here are some reasons why we strongly believe in small groups and how they work.

#1 - We believe that small groups were first used in the New Testament and we try to model our ministries after New Testament principles. Acts 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

#2 - We use our small groups for edification and evangelism. By edification we want small group members to be encouraged, strengthened, and discipled through the study of God's word. Evangelism is accomplished as small groups conduct "prayers of three" for their lost friends and family and plan and execute outreach events as small groups, networks, and encounters.
Act 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

#3 - Small groups meet throughout the week for an hour in homes primarily but some meet at the church and in restaurants. We have groups that meet in the morning, afternoon, and in the evening.

#4 - Small groups are to follow a meeting format but leaders are encouraged to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as certain needs may arise. The format basically consist of a welcome, a time of praise and testimonies, a time of prayer for needs, discussion of the lesson, and the "prayer of threes."

#5 - All Kings Point small group leaders must graduate from a nine-month weekly training program and are required to continue to sit under the authority of a small group leader (section leader or pastoral cell leader) as long as they lead a small group. We believe that every small group must be an on-going learner and student of the word of God.

Personal & Church Stuff

Hello Everyone,

Once or twice a week I like to use the blog to share some personal stuff as well as update you on some matters regarding the ministries at Kings Point.
  • I hope you are enjoying the website. We are trying to build a community with our new site. Please visit us often staying current on special events, reading my daily blog messages, and checking out a message on the sermon download page from time to time. Also, you can pass it on to your friends and family members.
  • Annette, Gabe, and I are meeting ourselves coming and going this week. Gabe started Driver's School this week right in the middle of his busiest week of spring soccer (4 games this week). Annette of course is working while getting with her mother this week to celebrate Mother's day. My week has been a typical one for me...hospital visitation, some office work, lots of phone calls, Gabe's taxi service, prayer & study, and working with our summer intern, Adam Johnson. Adam is a fine young man who will make a fine pastor some day.
  • We had a very nice cell meeting this morning a Bob Evans restaurant. The guys in our Wednesday morning cell work second shift and cannot attend the other men evening cells. I love these guys and appreciate them...Jeff Garner, Doug Taulbee, Danny Flinders, and Stan Stoddard.
  • We received nearly $2,000 Sunday in giving toward the repair of the church windows. Hopefully, all the money we need will come in over the next few weeks. Thank you so much for your generous giving.
  • Our Missions Conference is coming up quickly. Carmen McBeath shared with me that we are needing items from other countries for the conference. Please bring them to the church with your items properly labeled with your name on them so we can get them back to you. Carmen also was excited to share that we have at least ten Kings Point people going to El Salvador in August. Please be in prayer that everyone can raise their funds needed by the middle of June.
  • This Sunday we will have a great Mother's Day celebration. I will be sharing a message entitled "Recipe for a Great Mom." Also, we will be reading three of the best "Dear Mom" letters that we have received, our all ladies choir will be singing, all moms will receive a gift from the church, and finally we will be recognizing some special moms in our congregation.
  • If you're single, please join us for our Singles Night Out on Saturday, May 17th. They will be serving mexican, doing praise and worship, and having lots of fun!

Well, I guess that's enough for right now! Until next time!

The Chilling Effect of the Truth

[The following excerpt was taken from Pastor Randy Ballard's book 'The Culture Crafters" published by Authorhouse in 2004 and available at Amazon.com]

If you want to be less actuarial than cultural in your thinking, it's hard to believe that we don't all know, down deep, that abortion has not made our country a gentler place. I believe we haven't begun to appreciate the effect on our children and their developing understanding of life that they are told every day, on television and in magazines, in advertisements and news stories, that we allow the killing of children. It's not good for them to know that, not good for them to be told over and over that they live in a place where life is not necessarily respected and inconvenient life can be whisked away. Knowledge like that has a chilling effect on the soul.
- Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal Editorial Page

For two consecutive years, the church that I pastor performed a drama where a variety of brief scenes were acted out during a thirty-minute tour. Each scene depicted the consequences of certain permissible social practices like abortion, homosexuality, substance abuse (alcohol and drugs), sexual promiscuity, and dabbling in the occult. Of the thousands of people that went through these tours, approximately eighty per cent of them were teens and young adults. In twenty-three years of pastoral ministry, I have never seen so many people so physically and emotionally shaken. After a reporter from the Cincinnati Enquirer completed the tour, she described it as “disturbing.”

Why was it disturbing and troubling for so many people? For most, it was the painful reality of the lies that had been laid bare before their very eyes. Lies told by the gay community, Planned Parenthood, sex educators, beer companies, tobacco producers, Humanists; lies perpetuated by political, religious, corporate leaders, and the media. Lies like “if it feels good, do it,” or “its not a life, its only a cell,” or “I can’t help that I’m gay, this is they way God made me” and so on.

Consequently, millions of American adults have believed and bought the lies of the social crafters. The majority of these celebrate their freedom and independence upon making their choice, when in reality they are foolishly surrendering themselves into captivity. What the thousands of people that walked through our church’s dramatic scenes saw was the captivity and the destruction that the social crafters don’t tell us about; and why would they want too. As Peggy Noonan writes, “Knowledge like this has a chilling effect on the soul.”

The Deception of Imagery: Making Things Look Bigger than What They Really Are

[The following excerpt was taken from Pastor Randy Ballard's book, "The Culture Crafters" published by Authorhouse, 2004]

The Bible (Daniel 3) tells of a Babylonian King, Nebuchadnezzar, who once built an image of gold that was 90 feet high and 9 feet wide. He then made it law that whenever the music would begin, everyone in his kingdom would have to bow to this golden image. Shortly, after the decree went into effect, there were certain Chaldeans (Babylonians) who noticed that some of the Jewish young men who worked as government administrators were not bowing down to the golden image. Immediately these young men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, were reported to the King (Daniel 3:12).

King Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought before him. Nebuchadnezzar then said to them “…is it true that you refuse to worship my god and to bow down to the gold statue I have set up?” Before they could answer, the King reminded them of the consequences of their disobedience…they would be thrown into a blazing, fiery furnace. He then added, “Do you think there is any god that can save you?”

Even though the three young men had proven their loyalty to the King, they weren’t about to be intimidated or induced into worshipping an idol god. They replied, “If the God whom we serve is able to save us from the blazing furnace and from your power, then he will. But even if he doesn't, Your Majesty may be sure that we will not worship your god, and we will not bow down to the gold statue that you have set up."

Obviously, when Nebuchadnezzar heard their response, he lost it. The Good News Bible translation in Daniel 3:19 reads, he was so mad “…his face turned red with anger.” The only thing hotter than Nebuchadnezzar was the furnace that he had heated seven times hotter than normal. He then commanded the strongest soldiers in his army to take Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to throw them bound and fully dressed into the blaze of fire. The bible says the fire was so hot it burned to death the guards that threw them in.

The End, right? Wrong. What happened next horrified the King. He couldn’t believe his own eyes when he looked into the furnace. He said to his counselors, “Did we not throw three men bound into the middle of the fire?” The counselors agreed that it was three. “Behold!,” said Nebuchadnezzar, “I see four men loose, walking in the middle of the fire, and there is no harm among them. And the form of the fourth is like a son of the gods.”

Certainly, Nebuchadnezzar had never seen the Son of God before. But to him, the fourth person in the fire looked like a son of a supernatural god or angel. He then moved closer to the fiery furnace and called out to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, “…servants of the Most High God, come forth and come here.” The bible says the three Hebrew men came out from the middle of the fire unburned, with not even the scent of fire on them.

What was Nebuchadnezzar’s response? He had seen all he needed to see. He immediately sent out a new law throughout his kingdom. “…if anyone of any nation, race, or language speaks disrespectfully of the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, he is to be torn limb from limb, and his house is to be made a pile of ruins. There is no other god who can rescue like this."

Like Babylon’s Nebuchadnezzar, every culture has its image crafters. The devil operates through magnification and imagery. He deceives by magnifying things, ideas, or personalities to appear greater than what they really are. He has practiced this kind of deception from the very beginning when he said, “I will exalt my throne above the stars of God…above the heights of the clouds. I will be like the Most High” (Isaiah 14:13-14). In John 8:44, Jesus calls Satan the father of all lies.

Kimberly Daniels in “Clean House – Strong House” says “Imagery is the production of mental images or sounds through erroneous perception arising from misrepresentation; closely related to hallucination, which is mental wondering…Imagery is only real if we receive it to be so. Jesus really has all power, and Satan has to operate with a counterfeit authority. The devil has been stripped of all power.”

It was a Great Day...in Spite of a Headache

Wow, did I have a big-time headache this morning. It hurt to open my eyes. I taught a discipleship Sunday School class and the headache continued to plague me. During praise & worship this morning, it continued to stay with me. The Holy Spirit moved mightily in our P &W time and there was great liberty in the service. When I went to the pulpit to preach the pain was still there. However, sometime during the message God touched me. Afterwards, it was completely gone. God is good!

Today was a great Lord's day...even with the headache. We had two beautiful services. After the AM service, we showed a brief men's encounter highlight video presentation put to music. It was fun! I always enjoy seeing people rejoice, praise, dance, worship, and be blessed. I think the video reminded us how much fun we have at the encounter. C-R-A-Z-Y!

Well, I'm going to call it a day! I hope you have a great week!

In Christ,

Randy

It's Saturday Night and I Think I got a Message?

It is after 8 pm Saturday evening and I am finishing up some touches on what I think is the message that God has given me for tomorrow. Like I do every week, I have been seeking God for His word for Sunday and I know that others have been praying for me as well.

Saturdays for a pastor are like no other day of the week. I have been doing Saturdays as a senior pastor now for 24 years and I still feel like a rookie. I never feel comfortable on Saturday. Even if I feel like God has given me a message earlier in the week, I am still praying and seeking the face of God all day Saturday questioning the Spirit of God whether this is the message He wants delivered on Sunday. And do you know, very few times do I deliver a message on Sunday that I receive before Saturday morning. Usually, it's between Saturday and Sunday morning that God by His Spirit will burn a message in my heart for Sunday.

I have had people say, "Thats crazy! Just get a sermon from a sermon book and preach it." But it's never that easy. The call of God to preach demands that "the preacher" seek the "mind of God" for the message that God wants delivered. I constantly remind myself that I am only the messenger. God gives me the message and as I deliver it, then He anoints me and those who receive it and His will is done. That's how it happens!

So what's the message for tomorrow morning? Well, so far God has been speaking to me about "the hardening of the heart." Believe it or not, this message like many started with God dealing with me about the condition of my own heart...my own hardness. As I searched the scriptures, I found the even the disciples in the midst of the miracles and teachings of Christ were said to have hearts that were hardened (Mark 6:52).

I am amazed at how easy it is today for us as Christians to become hardened in our hearts. Hebrews 3 tells us it happens "through the deceitfulness of sin." In other words, like the sun that slowly hardens the soil over time our heart becomes hard by our disobedience. God help us as Hebrews 3 reminds us several times to "hear your voice" (and obey) so that our hearts will not be hardened.

Believe me, there is much more that I will share tomorrow...that is if God permits me to do so!

Please, Please, Pray for Pastors!

Jeremiah 2:8 The priests said not, Where [is] the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after [things that] do not profit.

More than ever, pastors, priests, spiritual leaders today need the prayers of believers! You may have noticed that today's headlines and television news stories are full of priests, pastors, and spiritual leaders that have been deceived by the enemy in commiting every kind of vile, wicked act that one can and cannot imagine. The spiritual leaders of Jeremiah's day very much ressembled the spiritual leadership of our day. The prophet Jeremiah points out in the above chapter that when a nation is defiled and turns its back on Almighty God it is simply following the wayward paths of those in spiritual leadership.

What happened? How did many of America's pastors, priests, and spiritual leaders harden their hearts toward the things of God? Take a look at these frightening statistics about today's Pastors' Relationship With the Lord:

· Seventy percent of pastors do not have a close friend, confidant, or mentor.
· Ninety-five percent of pastors do not regularly pray with their spouses.
· Eighty percent of pastors surveyed spend less than fifteen minutes a day in prayer.
· Seventy percent said the only time they spend studying the Word is when they are preparing their sermons.

· Almost forty percent polled said they have had an extra-marital affair since beginning their ministry.

As you can see, many spiritual leaders today fail to daily build up their inner, spiritual man. Thousands may not have fallen to immorality but are leaving the ministry in droves defeated, depressed, and dejected. What can you do? What can I do? It's simple...pray!

As a pastor, I ask that if you are in my flock to please keep me and my family in your prayers. Like other pastors, I sincerely need them. If you are reading this blog and you have a pastor or know friends or family that are in spiritual leadership, please pray for them daily. Listed below are ways you can pray. Your prayers will make a difference...not just for that pastor and his family, but for our nation. Any nation always goes the way of its spiritual leadership. Pray, pray, pray!
  • Pray that your pastor find other pastors who he can enter into covenant with. This should be a mutual, trusting relationship; where he can openly talk and pray for each other, without fear that the other pastors will gossip about you. Ministers often live lives that are very lonely. Finding others whom you can build relationships with will help alleviate the stress and loneliness of being a pastor.
  • Pray that your pastor will get into relationship with a mentor. We all need help from time to time, maybe even more so when we're in the ministry. Pastors need someone who has the wisdom, experience, and hopefully the anointing to minister to him or her as a pastor.
  • Pray that your pastor falls in love with studying the Word of God. Pray that he or she will take time to study, go to conferences and seminars as well, where he or she can receive ministry and encouragement.
  • Last, and most important, pray that they spend time in the presence of the Lord. I have noticed very clearly in my own life that the more time I spend in the presence of the Lord, the easier it is to deal with the difficult people in my life. When we pray and worship, we receive from God. We are strengthened, we are lifted up, we are emotionally healed, and the burden is taken off of our shoulders.

Why Go to Church?

If you're spiritually alive, you're going to love this! If you're spiritually dead, you won't want to read it. If you're spiritually curious, there is still hope!

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all." This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this .. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

When you are DOWN to nothing.... God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment!

Romans 10:17 “So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
